I was imagining, rather than an ongoing campaign with the same PCs, a series of storylines set in the same universe with the players taking new roles for each story (although perhaps with the option of coming back for 'sequels', Sam Spade style). And I'd like it to cover not just what folks think of as 'core' noir (1940s, LA, private eyes, hoods, femme fatales, etc) but also the fringes and crossovers that exist in the movie genre - so the occasional Victorian 'gaslight' noir, the slightly more actiony pan-European spy-noir, possibly even the occasional noir western.
So does anybody have any good ideas? Any games you've used to play such a setting, or just good ones you've heard of?
